How to set the price of a subscription
The one-time price of a product is its normal Shopify price. The subscription price is that price with the discount of the subscription option the customer picks. This guide shows the ways to set subscription prices, from a simple "subscribe and save 10%" to different prices per variant, per pack size and per payment term.

Method 1: Subscription option discounts
- Go to Supr Bundles & Subscriptions > Offers and open an offer.
- Open the subscription option.
- Turn on Discount and choose a Discount type:
- Percentage: a percentage off each subscription order.
- Amount off: an amount off each product (Value per product).
- Fixed price: the exact price of each product on the subscription (Value per product).
- Enter the value and save the offer.
Put several subscription options in one offer to give each delivery frequency or payment term its own price, for example monthly at 10% off and a prepaid yearly option at 20% off. Details on each type, and how they add up with codes and bundles: How subscription discounts work.
Method 2: Set up tiered pricing using product variants
You can sell different sizes, tiers or levels of service at different prices by creating product variants. See Shopify's guide on adding variants.
- Percentage and Amount off discounts work from each variant's own price, so one offer covers all variants and each keeps its own subscription price.
- A Fixed price discount sets the same price for every product and variant in the offer. For different fixed prices, create a separate offer for each, targeting just those variants. See Applying subscriptions to specific products and collections.
- Services and digital products work the same way: make each tier a variant at its monthly price, and in Shopify untick This is a physical product so no shipping is charged. A subscription option with no discount then charges the variant price every month.
Method 3: Charge for multiple orders in advance using prepaid subscriptions
Prepaid subscriptions let a customer pay once for several deliveries. Each payment is the price of one delivery multiplied by the number of deliveries it covers, so a prepaid option is also a way to set a higher minimum payment.
For setup and price calculations, see the prepaid subscriptions guide.
Pack and volume pricing on subscription
For "buy 2, save more" or packs of 3, 6 and 9, use a Bundle + Subscription offer with Quantity break bundle options. Bundles can be bought one-time or on subscription, and by default the subscription discount comes off the pack price. See Bundle types and How subscription discounts work.
To sell a subscription only in multiples (always 3 bags, for example), open the subscription option and click Sell in fixed quantities. Each of the option's other settings is a small chip under its main fields that names it and, once it is on, shows On or its value; clicking a chip opens the option's Additional settings with that setting expanded. Turn it on and set the Quantity.
A different price for the first order
To charge a lower price (or nothing) for the first order and your normal subscription price after that, use a loyalty program or a Shopify discount limited to the first payment. See Offering a free trial or discounted first order.
Checking what a subscriber will pay
- Before launch: the offer editor's preview shows the price of each option. Then check the live product page, because the product must be published to your online store for the widget to show there.
- At checkout: Shopify shows the price of the first order and of later orders.
- For an existing subscriber: open the subscription in Subscriptions. The Upcoming renewals card shows what each renewal will charge.
Common questions
How do I make the subscription price different from the one-time price?
The one-time price is your Shopify product price. Give the subscription option a discount (Percentage, Amount off or Fixed price) in Offers.
Can a subscription cost more than buying once?
Yes. Use a Fixed price higher than the product's price.
Can collection pages or product cards show the subscription price?
The app changes prices on the product page only (with Update product page prices under Design > Add-on settings). Shopify gives apps no way to change prices on collection pages or product cards, so showing a "from" subscription price there needs a change to your theme's code by a theme developer.
Why do the widget prices stay the same when a customer changes the quantity?
The widget shows the price of one item (or one pack, on an option that uses Sell in fixed quantities), like your theme's own product price. The cart and checkout show the total for the quantity chosen.
Why is my prepaid price so high?
A prepaid payment is the price of one delivery times the number of deliveries it covers. See Prepaid subscriptions.
Can the discount be taken from my compare-at price?
No, Shopify takes percentage and amount off discounts from the current price. Use a Fixed price discount for an exact price.
I changed my prices. Do existing subscribers pay the new price?
That depends on Automatic price updates in Settings > Billing and renewals. See https://supr-bundles-and-subscriptions.crisp.help/en-us/article/changing-prices-for-existing-subscribers-j5h6xq/.
