How Supr Bundles & Subscriptions Works

Welcome to Supr Bundles & Subscriptions! This overview explains how shoppers buy and manage products on a recurring basis. You'll discover how offers appear on your storefront, how subscription contracts form after checkout, and how customers stay in control through the customer portal.

Table of Contents

The customer journey

Picture a shopper exploring your store. They notice a subscription option in the widget on the product page and pick the schedule that suits them best. After checkout, the app creates a subscription contract that confirms when they'll be billed and what they'll receive. From then on each renewal is charged automatically to their saved payment method, and every renewal becomes a normal Shopify order for you to fulfil. A confirmation email leads them to the customer portal, where they can return anytime to update quantities, swap products, or add something new.

Subscription offers

An offer defines which products can be purchased on a recurring basis and under what terms. Each offer can include one or more subscription options such as weekly or monthly deliveries, discounts, and prepaid schedules. Customers see your offer in the widget on the product page and pick a subscription option there, before they add the product to their cart. Checkout then shows the option they chose. You can create your own offer with subscription options from Supr Bundles & Subscriptions > Offers.

The subscription storefront widget

The product page widget displays your offers on product pages so shoppers can easily start a subscription. Customers pick their preferred option, see any discounts, and add the subscription to their cart. Turn it on with Enable widget on Supr Bundles & Subscriptions > Design, which is also where you change how it looks. The widget places itself above the add to cart button and adapts to your theme.

Subscription contracts

After a customer checks out with a subscription option, a subscription contract is created. The contract records the exact terms the customer purchased: billing schedule, products, discounts, and upcoming renewals. Any future changes you make to the offer won't affect existing contracts. You can view and modify contracts from Supr Bundles & Subscriptions > Subscriptions.

Bundles

Alongside subscriptions, the app lets you sell bundles: quantity breaks, Buy X Get Y deals, fixed sets, and build-a-box. Bundles are built from the same Offers page, as bundle options inside an offer, and they can be bought one-time or on subscription. See Bundle types to get started.

Managing subscriptions

Customers can manage their own subscriptions through the customer portal, where they can skip, pause, or cancel deliveries. Merchants can also update contracts directly in the admin to change products, shipping details, or renewal dates. You can view and customize your customer portal from Supr Bundles & Subscriptions > Settings > Customer portal.

Emails to your customers and your staff (subscription started, upcoming renewal, payment failed and so on) are set up under Settings > Notifications.

Growing your subscriptions

Supr Bundles & Subscriptions > Grow holds the tools that win and keep subscribers: Cancellation flows, Pause flows, Loyalty, Quick subscribe links and Upsells. For example, quick subscribe links take a shopper straight to a subscription checkout from an email or a button.

Customer data requests

When a customer asks for the personal data you hold about them, you send that request from the customer's page in your Shopify admin, and Shopify passes it to every app on your store. This app gathers what it holds about that customer, such as their subscription history.

A banner on Supr Bundles & Subscriptions > Home then lists each open request with the date you need to answer by, and a Download button that saves the data as a file. The file also explains what the data is used for, who processes it, and how long it is kept, so you can pass it to the customer as it is, alongside the data Shopify sends you. We email you when a request arrives, with none of the customer's details in it. When the app holds nothing about that customer, no banner appears and there is nothing for you to do.

What it costs

Current plans are listed on the pricing page: . The Billing page in the app shows which plan your store is on. See What is the app pricing? for how plans work in the app.

Limitations

To use the Supr Bundles & Subscriptions app, your store must use one of the following payment gateways:

This is a Shopify platform requirement rather than an app limitation. See Which payment gateways work with subscriptions for the full picture.

Common questions

  • Do renewals charge automatically, or does the customer have to renew each time?

Automatically. On each scheduled date the customer's saved payment method is charged and a normal Shopify order is created for you to fulfil. See When customers are charged vs when orders are fulfilled.

  • Where do customers choose their subscription?

In the widget on the product page, before adding to cart. Checkout only shows the subscription option they picked.

  • Is the app free? How much does it cost?

Plans change over time, so the pricing page is always the current answer: . The Billing page in the app shows your store's plan.

  • Is there documentation or a video tutorial?

You are in it. Every feature has an article on this helpdesk, and the Video guides page lists our walkthroughs.

  • What happens to my subscriptions if I uninstall the app?

  • Can I test a subscription before going live?

Yes, and we recommend it. See Creating a test subscription order.
