Creating Subscription Invitations (Quick subscribe links)
Quick subscribe links are checkout links that start a subscription in one click. Each link has a subscription option and one or more products already chosen, so a shopper who opens it lands straight on checkout with everything filled in. Use them for "Subscribe now" buttons, newsletters and landing pages, or email one to a single customer as an invitation.

When to use quick subscribe links
- Marketing: a "Subscribe now" button on your homepage, a landing page or a page builder such as PageFly, or a link in a newsletter, that opens a checkout with the subscription already selected.
- Customers without a saved card: Shopify only lets you create a subscription from the admin for a customer who already has a saved payment method. For anyone else, including new customers and in-store or phone orders, send a quick subscribe link: the customer enters their card at checkout and the subscription starts.
- Support: send a customer a link for the exact products and schedule they asked for.
Create a link
- Go to Grow > Quick subscribe links and click Create link.
- Enter a Name (for your own reference) and, if you like, a Description (optional).
- Under Subscription, choose from the Subscription option list. It lists the subscription options from your offers, grouped by offer. Once you pick one, its Order frequency, Billing frequency, Duration and Discount are shown underneath.
- Under Products, click Add products and choose the product variants. Set the Quantity for each.
- Click Generate checkout link to see the link, then Copy URL to copy it.
- Save the link with the save bar at the top of the page. Saved links appear on the Quick subscribe links list so you can copy them again later.
Each product must be part of the offer that the chosen subscription option belongs to. If one is not, a Product must be available in selected subscription plan warning appears on that product and the link cannot be generated. Click View subscription offer to open that offer and add the product to it in Offers, or remove the product from the link.
One link holds one fixed combination of products and one subscription option. Make a separate link for each combination you want to offer.
Optional extras: discount code, order properties and order note
Under Additional options you can switch on:
- Discount code: enter a Shopify discount code in Discount code and it is applied automatically at checkout. The code must already exist in Shopify admin > Discounts and be allowed on subscriptions.
- Order properties: add Property name and Property value pairs that are saved on the order, for example a campaign name or a gift message.
- Order note: a note added to the order.
Send a link to one customer
- In the Customer (optional) card, search for and select the customer.
- Choose one of their addresses to fill in shipping at checkout, or Do not autofill address.
- Click Generate checkout link, then Send email invitation, and confirm with Send email.
The invitation uses the Quick subscribe invitation email, which you can reword and brand under Settings > Notifications > Customer notifications. See Notifications.
The customer's details are only used for the link you generate for them. Saved links on the list are general links without anyone's details, so they are safe to share widely.
Manage your saved links
The Quick subscribe links list shows each link's Name, Products and Discount.
- Click Copy link on a row to copy it.
- Click a row to open and edit the link. After changing the products, subscription or customer, generate the link again: the old URL is cleared.
- To delete links, tick them and use Delete.
What the shopper sees
Opening the link takes the shopper to your store's checkout with the products, quantities and subscription option already in place (and the discount code, if you added one). They only need to enter their details and card, and no customer account is needed.
Troubleshooting
- "Generate checkout link" is disabled: choose a Subscription option, add at least one product, and fix any product showing the Product must be available in selected subscription plan warning.
- Send email invitation is missing: it only appears once you have selected a customer who has an email address, and after the link is generated.
- The link lands on the cart instead of checkout, or the discount does not apply: check that the discount code exists, is active and applies to subscriptions. If it still happens, contact support with the link.
Common questions
- Can I send customers a one-click link to start a subscription?
Yes, that is exactly what quick subscribe links are. Create one under Grow > Quick subscribe links and put it in an email, a button or a page.
- Can I start a subscription for a customer who has no saved card?
Not from the admin, because Shopify needs a saved payment method for that. Send them a quick subscribe link instead: they enter their card at checkout and the subscription starts.
- A customer bought one time and now wants a subscription. Can I switch their order over?
Not the order itself: a one-time order cannot be turned into a subscription, the customer portal only manages subscriptions that already exist, and a draft order cannot start a subscription in Supr Bundles & Subscriptions. Send the customer a quick subscribe link for the same products and subscription option instead. Once they have checked out with it, refund the original one-time order in Shopify if you do not want to charge them twice.
- Do I need a separate link for each customer who wants to switch?
No. One saved link for those products and that subscription option works for everyone. A link made for one customer only adds the convenience of filling in their email and address at checkout.
- Does the customer need an account to use the link?
No. The link opens a normal checkout on your store.
- Can I add a discount code to the link?
Yes. Switch on Discount code under Additional options and enter an existing Shopify discount code.
- Can one link offer several products?
Yes, add as many variants as you like. They all use the same subscription option.
