# Subscriptions are not adding to cart

The widget shows on your product page, but clicking add to cart does not add the subscription, only the **one-time** purchase works while the **subscription** option does nothing, or the subscription says **sold out** although the product is in stock. This guide walks through the common causes in order.

### 1. Check the app embed is on

The **Supr Bundle & Subscriptions** app embed is what switches the widget on, and some add to cart features only work with it on, for example selling a product made with the **Shopify Bundles** app on subscription. Keep it on even if you placed the **Subscriptions + Bundles** block by hand: the embed steps aside wherever a block is on the page, so you never get two widgets.

* Go to **Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds** and make sure **Supr Bundle & Subscriptions** is **on**, then click **Save**. Or click **Enable widget** on the **Design** page in the app.

### 2. Check the product can ship on a subscription

If one-time purchase adds to cart but the subscription is refused, often with a **sold out** message, Shopify cannot find a way to ship the subscription:

* **A subscription shipping profile with no location.** If you created a shipping profile for subscriptions, it must ship from at least one location. In your Shopify admin, go to **Settings > Shipping and delivery**, open the profile (Shopify shows a warning on it) and turn on a location. If you do not need separate subscription rates, you can instead delete the profile: in the app under **Settings > Shipping** if the app created it, otherwise in Shopify's shipping settings, and subscriptions then use your normal rates. See [Shipping Settings](https://supr-bundles-and-subscriptions.crisp.help/en-us/article/shipping-settings-17yb28n/).
* **A Shopify Bundles product.** A product made with the Shopify Bundles app counts as sold out when any of its component products is sold out, and it can only be bought on subscription when every component product is also in the offer. The offer editor warns you with **component products are missing** and an **Add component products** button.
* **The product is sold out.** If it is not set to **Continue selling when out of stock**, add stock or turn that setting on in the product's **Inventory** section.

### 3. Check your payment gateway

Shopify only allows subscriptions to be purchased through specific, recurring-capable payment gateways. If your store uses an unsupported gateway, the subscription can't be completed at checkout even though the widget shows.

* Confirm you're on a supported provider, see [Which payment gateways work with subscriptions](https://supr-bundles-and-subscriptions.crisp.help/en-us/article/which-payment-gateways-work-with-subscriptions-n8zrh0/). Shopify's own [list of supported subscription gateways](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/purchase-options/subscriptions/shopify-subscriptions/considerations) is the source of truth.

### 4. Look for a theme or cart-app conflict

If **one-time adds to cart but subscription doesn't**, or a sticky or quick "Buy" button only carries the one-time item, the cause is usually the theme or another app handling the add to cart:

* **Sticky add to cart bars** and **quick buy buttons** sometimes submit only the one-time selection. Use the main add to cart button on the product page to confirm.
* **Quick add popups** on collection pages only carry the subscription on some themes. See [Quick add and quick view popups](https://supr-bundles-and-subscriptions.crisp.help/en-us/article/how-to-enable-the-subscription-widget-in-the-online-store-enrffm/#3-quick-add-and-quick-view-popups).
* **Cart drawer and cart upsell apps** can rebuild the cart and drop the chosen subscription, or not open after a bundle is added.
* Some themes have custom add to cart code that conflicts with the widget.

What to do: test with the standard add to cart button on the product page first. If that works but a sticky bar, quick add or drawer app does not, contact support and tell us which theme and apps you use; we can often patch this from our side. If the standard button itself fails, contact our support and we'll check for a theme conflict.

### 5. Confirm the product and widget setup

* The product must be in a **Published** [offer](https://supr-bundles-and-subscriptions.crisp.help/en-us/article/a-beginners-guide-to-subscription-offers-1ey00x7/), and the subscription option must be available to the shopper. Open the option: under its main fields, each of its other settings is listed as a small chip that names it and, once it is on, shows **On** or its value, and clicking a chip opens that setting. Check that **Customer eligibility** (for example **All logged-in customers**) and **Restrict to specific bundle options** are not hiding it.
* The page needs your theme's **Buy buttons** block. The widget has no add to cart button of its own.
* The app embed shows the widget on product pages. To sell from your home page, a collection page or a landing page, add the **Subscriptions + Bundles** block in a **Featured product** section and set its product. See [Showing the widget on other pages](https://supr-bundles-and-subscriptions.crisp.help/en-us/article/how-to-enable-the-subscription-widget-in-the-online-store-enrffm/#3-showing-the-widget-on-other-pages).

### Still stuck?

If you've checked all of the above and subscriptions still won't add, contact support with your store URL and a link to the product (and the storefront password if your store is locked). We'll investigate the theme and app combination for you.

### Common questions

**The subscription says sold out, but the product is in stock. Why?**
Usually a subscription shipping profile has no location to ship from. See [2. Check the product can ship on a subscription](#3-2-check-the-product-can-ship-on-a-subscription).

**Only the one-time purchase goes into the cart. What is wrong?**
Try the main add to cart button on the product page. If that works, a sticky bar, quick add or cart app is dropping the subscription; contact support with the app or theme name. If it does not, check the app embed is on and contact support.

**Why do the Shop Pay or Apple Pay buttons disappear when a bundle option is selected?**
Express checkout buttons can only buy the single product at the quantity in your theme's picker, so they would skip the bundle. They are hidden while such an option is selected, for example a build-a-box, a fixed bundle or an option with a free gift. **Add to cart** and **Buy it now** carry the whole bundle.

**My cart drawer does not open after adding a bundle. Can that be fixed?**
Yes, this is a theme or cart app compatibility issue that we fix per store. Send us the product link and the name of your cart app.

**Can customers pick a subscription in the cart?**
No. There is no picker on the cart page. Customers choose on the product page, or on any page where you placed the **Subscriptions + Bundles** block. On Shopify Plus, the Checkout Subscription Picker lets them switch at checkout instead, see [Switching to a subscription at checkout](https://supr-bundles-and-subscriptions.crisp.help/en-us/article/what-shoppers-see-in-the-cart-and-at-checkout-uw6zhp/#3-switching-to-a-subscription-at-checkout-shopify-plus).
