# Selling subscriptions in Shopify POS

Sell your subscription options at the counter with Shopify POS, and look after a customer's subscriptions from their POS profile. The subscription is created when the customer pays, the same as an online order.

* [Add the Subscribe tile](#3-add-the-subscribe-tile)

### Before you start

* Shopify POS **10.15 or later**. On an older version the tile says **Update Shopify POS to sell subscriptions** and stays off.
* **Shopify Payments**, with the customer paying **by card**, so the card is saved for renewals.
* The products published to the **Point of Sale** sales channel, with an offer whose subscription options include them.
* Staff log in to Shopify POS with their own account, which needs access to the app. A staff member who is only pinned in cannot see or change subscriptions.

### Add the Subscribe tile

1. In Shopify POS, tap **Edit** on the home screen's smart grid.
2. Tap **Add tile**, choose **Supr subscriptions**, and add the **Subscribe** tile.
3. Tap **Done**.

### Sell a subscription

1. Tap the **Subscribe** tile.
2. Under **Customer**, search for the customer and tap them. A subscription needs a customer to renew.
3. Under **Add a product on subscription**, search for the product, tap it and its variant, then tap the subscription option. It goes in the cart on that option.
4. Items already in the cart that have subscription options are listed too: tap an option, or **One-time purchase** to take it off again.
5. Take payment by card.

You can also open an item in the cart and tap **Subscribe** in its menu to choose for that item only.

The subscription then works like one bought online: it renews on its schedule, shows in **Subscriptions** in the app, and the customer manages it from the customer portal.

### Manage a customer's subscriptions

Open a customer in POS. The **Subscriptions** block, or **Manage subscriptions** in the customer's menu, lists their subscriptions with their status, items and next order date. Depending on the status, staff can:

* **Skip next order**
* **Move next order** to a new date
* **Pause** and **Resume**
* **Cancel subscription** (tap twice to confirm)

Each change is recorded on the subscription's timeline like a change made in the app. What a staff member may do follows their role under **Settings > Staff permissions**: viewing needs access to **Subscriptions**, and changing needs edit access.

### Bundles on POS

The bundle discount works at the counter for **quantity breaks** (ring the product up with the quantity of the option, for example 3) and for **fixed bundles** with **Auto detection** on. Build your own bundle, Buy X get Y and free gifts are chosen in the product page widget, which POS does not have.

### What POS cannot do

These are Shopify limits for every subscription app:

* A product sold **only** on subscription cannot be sold on POS. Send the customer a [quick subscribe link](/en-us/article/creating-subscription-invitations-quick-subscribe-links-tuhx5q/) instead.
* A subscription cannot start on a cash payment, **Mark as unpaid**, an order that mixes ship and carry out, or a split payment.
